CONTAMINATED SITES TEAM LEADER $155K - $138K What can a Boutique offer?
Contaminated Sites Principle These are some of the discrepancies I get from consultants working at large engineering Consultancies. - The Environmental group is only there to help win projects for other engineering branches through approvals. Low resource commitment for our group growth.
- I moved here for more money in the boom times, but at this point I cannot see myself wanting to settle down here. I want a role with longevity.
- I rarely get to interact directly with directors and upper management, and do not feel considered in the strategic process.
- My parallel colleagues are in other states, and decisions are handed down to me, not openly discussed.
- The culture is flat and focused purely on statistics – overtime hours, billable hours, charge outs, tender successes.
- Yes the company has shareholders, but there are very few proportionate to the amount of staff and my opportunities for equity and progression are limited.
Each of the above issues are significant enough to make you want to look for a new role, and on their own may seem like a simple request to meet. The tricky part is achieving a balance of all the motivators that make a role not only enjoyable but challenging and worthwhile for you. Chances are if you are a principal level in the contaminated sites niche, you are contaminated sites through and through. You are happy to stay in this space, and are technically sound to take on a technical leadership role.

CONTAMINATED SITES Principal. $145K - $123K. Simply better atmosphere?
Contaminated Sites Sometimes, the reasons for changing jobs are simple. You don’t enjoy the place you work. - The culture is stifling
- The company philosophy does not seem to be driven
- You are not able to have an impact and do business the way you want to.
This leadership role is suited to a contaminated sites scientist who wants responsibility, wants to have input into how this responsibility is managed, and wants to work in a company where the culture is genuinely collaborative and nice to be around. With a WA manager who actively seeks your input, and as long as you and your team are operating in the green and within the corporate values, is happy for you to “run your own show” so to speak. The biggest advantage here is that the success you have in this company is directly related to your personal drive.
The size of your team also means that no one is running under the radar. You will know your team like that back of your hand and this makes the people management side simpler – leaving more time for you to work on your own technical work, determining strategy for the team, and driving business in the direction you have pegged.
No one I have spoken to who currently works or has worked at this company has a bad thing to say about the culture. They support charities, they turn training into fun family weekends, they walk past each other’s offices with a greeting instead of silence, and most importantly - the different teams interact regularly and openly seek advice from one another.

Contaminated Sites Scientist $122K - $98K It's all in the reputation...
Contaminated Sites Scientist Mid - Senior Level
When I spoke to the team manager about this role, I asked them why would someone want to come and work for your company as opposed to somewhere else? The answer.
The company has a great reputation with its clients, and they always come back for more. To me this was a valuable answer, as I often speak with contaminated sites candidates who are only looking to break into operators, as consulting puts too much pressure on them to build business etc etc. - With technical work varied phase I – remedial work across land developers, work that flows through from the waste section, and mining work from the approvals team, this flexibility gives the team autonomy to run with what is working.
- Of course things are professionally measured as any successful global business is, but as long as the contam sites business unit is performing, they are left alone to keep this up.
- Lastly, but equally important, is that the business really acknowledges that mid – senior level consultants. Through training courses and support from senior staff, step up as your perform and follow leads you believe to be valuable.
- Client contact and the consultative approach is the ethos of the company that you will follow.
